Transformers Becomes the Highest-Grossing Film of 2011 (omg!)

Transformers: Dark Side of the Moon became the highest-grossing film of 2011 this week, holding on to the No. 1 spot at the box office, despite a strong debut by Horrible Bosses.

The third Transformers film grossed an estimated $47 million in its second week of release, according to Box Office Mojo, bringing its total earnings to $261 million. Bosses came in second with $28.1 million, continuing a trend of strong performances by R-rated comedies this summer (see: Bridesmaids, The Hangover Part II and Bad Teacher).
