On August 5th, 2011 Chernin Entertainment and 20th Century Fox released the science fiction thriller Rise of the Planet of the Apes. Written by Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver, and directed by Rupert Wyatt, this movie was designed as somewhat of a prequel to the Planet of the Apes film series. However, this version has its own original story that does not directly correlate with the previous series.
Will Rodman, played by James Franco, is a scientist at a pharmaceutical company called Gen-Sys. While trying to develop a cure for Alzheimer?s Disesase, they use chimpanzees for a clinical trial. However, the virus that is used in the trial mutates within the chimps causing them to show an incredible level of intelligence.
Will takes home one of the baby chimpanzees and names him Caesar, taking care of him and studying him. As Caesar grows, he continues to show an amazing amount of human-like intelligence and characteristics which eventually get him into trouble later on, because he has a hard time being accepted in society. The plot takes many twists and turns as it follows Caesar, and he shows us just how apes were able to take over the Earth.
Grossing at $345,125,000, Rise of the Planet of the Apes is an artistic masterpiece filled with incredible effects, an intricate storyline, and heart-racing action. Highly recommended on my list, this movie is a must-see. It?s still in theaters, so don?t miss it!
