We've shown you how to make some sharp-looking charging stations before, but this one, made from a serving bowl, some cardboard, and a soft chair pad, takes the prize for "cheap without totally looking it." The cables are easy to access, there's plenty of room for your gadgets to charge on top of it, and best of all the whole thing cost about $6.
Over at Ikea Hackers, reader Jon took a simple blue SOLBRAND serving bowl and drilled a quarter-inch hole in the side for the cables to route through. He hot-glued some wooden blocks to the bottom of the bowl, and then put a NEDDA chair pad, glued to a cardboard backing, on top of the blocks. He fed the charging cables in through the hole, coiled them up in the space between the chair pad and the bottom of the bowl, and fed them up through a slot in the pad to connect his gadgets.
Jon suggests using a RABALDER cable cover to keep all of the charging cables coming out of the back of the charging station organized, or better yet, putting a surge protector inside the charging station so you only have one cable coming out of the back. Considering the whole thing costs less than a Hamilton, it looks pretty good, like it would be at home on anyone's desk. What do you think? What would you change about it?
