Hillary Clinton swarmed by bees in Malawi, meets Mandela on Africa trip

A swarm of bees descended around US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and her staff as she departed from Malawi's airport after a six and half-hour visit, the Nyasa Times reported.

"There was a slight panic as the bees winged across the airport. People could be seen running away to keep cover as the secretary of state swiftly boarded her plane to avoid any stings," an eyewitness told the Nyasa Times.

During the trip, Clinton met Africa's second female president, Joyce Banda, and groups of schoolgirls. The Secretary of State is on an 11-day tour of Africa and is the second highest ranking American to visit the Southern African nation.

On Monday, she traveled to South Africa for a visit to "pay her respects" to Nelson Mandela.

The Christian Science Monitor reported Clinton had lunch with Mandela and his wife Graca Machel.

She is scheduled to visit Nigeria, Ghana and Benin before heading to Turkey for talks on the Syrian crisis, Good Morning America reported.
