CENTRAL POINT, Ore. -- Some horses in your town are being mistreated and neglected and local animal advocates say it needs to change.
Hopeful Hearts Horse Rescue is trying to get the law? to crack down on animal abusers.
Neglected and abused horses have become a growing problem in southern oregon.
"Skin and bones, bruises, a lot of them have rot on their feet," said Jerry Kreinger, the office manager for the non-profit.
Hopeful Hearts Horse Rescue helps multiple horses a year.
People like Jerry are hoping the state sees this growing issue and hold a higher punishment towards the abuser, which is why they're going to the state. They are asking abuse against farm animals to become a felony rather than a misdemeanor.
"You are looking at something that should be a 10 year sentence for starving an animal to death and given a substantial fine that should be going to the rescues to help them so they can get money and replace money they have had to pay out of their pocket," said Kreiner.
????
Right now, the project is still in the works and no legislation has been written yet, which means the Kreiners will continue to rescue more and more horses.
