I know, I know, I should be whipping up my salad dressings from scratch. It?s not hard to make a good vinaigrette. But there?s a reason they call it ?convenience food,? right? A quickie salad is my go-to meal when I?m super busy, so anything that can shave a few minutes off of the prep time makes a difference.
The point is, I buy bottled salad dressings. In the photo at the top there, you can see the sad sight of an ?empty? bottle of my favorite bottled dressing: Goddess Dressing. Why is empty in quotes, you ask? Because while it might look like that bottle is spent, I have a trick for squeezing one last salad (sometimes two!) out of that sucker.
Ready?
1. Add 1 teaspoon of lemon juice or your favorite vinegar to the bottle.
2. Put the lid back on.
3. Shake it up!
4. Smugly pour your salvaged dressing onto your delicious lunch.
Not only does this method squeeze every last drop of dressing from the bottle to reduce food waste, over time it saves you money! How many ?empty? bottles of dressing have you tossed in the recycle bin over the years? If you could have gotten a whole extra serving or two out of each of those, that adds up to a lot of bottles of dressing!
Do you have any easy food waste tips? I?d love to hear your ideas for making the most of the food you buy!
